Today more people are storing their wine in homemade wineracks that are built in their home or home wine cellar. One of the materials that some wine racks are made of is metal. A metal wine rack is now a common sight in many kitchens, dining rooms and homes all over the world. If you have the time and desire, a metal wine rack is somewhat easy to design and build.
The Design Stage
It can be fun designing your own rack. You can get creative with the metal because metal is easily formed into as many shapes and designs that you can think of. The most common racks you see of metal round curls that hold the bottles or a wave like shape that cradels the wine bottles. Other rack designs such as a hanging rack are a little more sophisticated because they will need to be properly balanced. If done right the hanging rack has a very pleasing appearance but if its not balanced right it can be hazard.
Forming The Rack
You will need some creative and artistic skill as well as some welding skill to build your rack. Metal needs to be welded together to join. You will also need to apply heat so that it can be flexable enough to shape. Making a metal wine rack can be tricky and you will need some equipment for welding and heating.
Having a skill in welding will be a plus because it will take skill and patience to weld it together. If you have no idea what your doing then heating can also be tricky and dangerous.
Advantages Of A Metal Wine Rack
Having a metal wine rack just for appearance can be very pleasing to look at. Most metal racks are made of steel, however other metals can be used. You may coat the wine rack with a protective coating that will help maintain it.
A metal wine rack can also be very sturdy and can be used for many other purposes other than as a wine rack. If it has an even top, it can be used to hold a tray for glasses or to be a small table. They are light are easy to move since they are not solid but only metal frame construction.
